Gilas Pilipinas pre-FIBA tuneup games

With less than two weeks to go before the 27th FIBA Asia Championship tips-off, Filipino basketball fans will have a glimpse on how the three-month buildup of Gilas Pilipinas went through as they take on a PBA selection squad on the 24th and the Kazakhstan national basketball team on the 26th. The PBA selection squad will be coached by coach Franz Pumaren of Air21 Express and will feature superstar players from different PBA teams. The lineup includes Chris Tiu and Paul Lee of Rain or Shine, Peter June Simon, Mark Barroca, and Joe Devance of San Mig Coffee, Cyrus Baguio, Calvin Abueva and JVee Casio of Alaska, KG Canaleta of Air 21, Jay Washington of GlobalPort, Alex Cabagnot and Arwind Santos of Petron, and Chris Ellis of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

Kazakhstan, who has an impressive record under their belt in the years they participated in the FIBA Asia Championship, will have a first crack on the Philippine national team on the 26th. The team from central Asia will banner the 6-foot 0-inches Jerry Johnson as their naturalized player for the tourney.


Gilas is composed of Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, Larry Fonacier, and Ranidel De Ocampo of Talk ‘N Text; Jeff Chan and Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine; Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio of Ginebra; Gary David of GlobalPort; June Mar Fajardo of Petron; Marc Pingris of San Mig Coffee; and naturalized center Marcus Douthit. The team is coached by former Talk 'N Text coach, Chot Reyes.
